How to Unlock Your BlackBerry Phones?

Most people are unaware that Blackberry mobile phones can be easily unlocked . When you are traveling abroad and going out of the coverage area of your cell phone service provider, it is better that you use another SIM card and switch over to a local network. For that to happen, you must first unlock your Blackberry Curve. Here are step by step instructions on how to go about unlocking your Blackberry Curve.

Note Down IMEI Number

Note down the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number of your Blackberry Curve. This number is the unique identifier for your phone and you will need it to get your phone unlocked. To retrieve the number, you will have to type *#06# in your phone. Immediately, you will see the 15 digit IMEI number displayed on the screen. Note it down accurately.

Get the Unlock Code

The cell phone software is so programmed that you can only unlock it by entering a special unlock code . This code is Known as Mobile Equipment Personalization Code (MEP).

If you search inĀ  google you will see many websites providingĀ  free Unlock codes, but all these codes are not genuine. By entering the wrong code, you will loose the number of attempts to unlock the phone. The maximum number of attempts to enter the MEP2 code is TEN.
Always remember ” There is no free lunch”

So the best way to unlock your Blackberry is to buy unlock codes from a trusted vendor.

Search internet for mobile phone unlocking websites. You will come across a thousand websites who can do this. Choose which ever you like. Do look for price comparisons and the unlocking instructions.

Recheck the Model number- Network to which your phone is locked to and the IMEI number before placing an order. If you made any mistakes in these details these people will never give you a refund!!

One more thing, before placing an order ask them about the conditions for getting a full refund in the case of a code failure! Think and make a wise decision.
I have personally bought the code for my Blackberry Pearl 8100 from unlockgenie.com. It is because they have good reviews on most of the mobile phone forums. I got my phone unlocked successfully from that website. I think their codes don’t fail. The web link for the above mentioned web site is http://unlockgenie.com/

They will first verify your account details, ask for the IMEI number and then ask you for an email address to send the unlock code. The number generally arrives within 24 to 48 hours.

Unlocking Procedure

Now you are ready to unlock your Blackberry Curve Keep the unlock code and IMEI number in front of you. You must have a SIM card (inactive or active) inside the phone for the following procedure to work. When the phone starts up, it might say something like ‘SIM Card Unauthorized’. Go to the ‘Menu’ and select ‘Settings’ option. Then select ‘Advanced Options’. Among the options that you see in the drop down list, select ‘Sim Card’. Type MEPD in capital through the keyboard using ALT key. No text will appear on screen while you do this. You will see a list of phone settings with ‘Network Active’ as one entry.

Then enter ‘MEP2’ in capital. Again the text won’t appear as you type. A window will appear and ask you to enter the unlock code. Enter the unlock code correctly and your Blackberry Phone is unlocked and you can now use any GSM service provider’s SIM card! Make sure that you enter it correctly as there are only ten attempts. If you fail the ten attempts, your Blackberry will get locked. So be careful when entering the code!

Hope this article has eliminated any doubts in your mind about how to unlock Blackberry Curve 8310 (or other models). Once the phone is unlocked, you are free to switch over to any other cell phone service.
